Development and maintenance of recreation infrastructure is an important responsibility for the Resort Village and over the years, Council has heard that there is significant community interest in preserving and enhancing the natural beauty of our community.
The Candle Lake 20 Year Master Plan for Parks, Opens Spaces and Trails is a dynamic long-term planning document that will help guide the Resort Village in its decision-making and policy-setting regarding existing and future recreation infrastructure. It is based on research and prioritizes social and physical connections in our community. The Plan includes opportunities to expand and enhance existing trails, parks and recreational opportunities while supporting volunteer groups and protecting the environment. It also sets out strategies to implement the Plan in phases, based on community priorities. Defining priorities ahead of time also allows the Resort Village to be ready to respond when funding or development opportunities arise, and will make our community more attractive to investors. Finally, the Plan will help guide spending plans to ensure a high quality of life continues as the community grows and changes.
The Master Plan was adopted in March 2023 after an extensive planning process that included an in-depth review of existing plans, policies, infrastructure and amenities, and community surveying and engagement with residents, visitors, volunteer groups and community services stakeholders.
When implemented, the Master Plan will set the Resort Village of Candle Lake as an advanced and progressive place to live and visit, with enhanced sense of place and identity.
