PUBLIC NOTICE JUNE 13, 2025

Voluntary Evacuation Advisory & Local Emergency Rescinded

Fire Ban Remains in Effect

Voluntary Evacuation Advisory & Local Emergency Rescinded
Effective immediately, the Voluntary Evacuation advisory has been lifted, and today, June 13, 2025 at 9:27 am the Resort Village Council has lifted the local emergency. Recent fire-behaviour assessments, Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) fire data, and forecasted weather conditions confirm a marked reduced likelihood of wildfire encroaching upon the Resort Village making the Shoe Fire no longer an immediate threat. While fire activity may continue for several weeks or months, normal activities may resume with due vigilance.  We are glad to welcome our full-time and seasonal residents, and visitors back to the community!

Stay Alert – Be Prepared
Residents are advised to stay alert, have a plan for accommodation in place, and a list of items to pack in an Emergency Kit prepared. Residents are also asked to stay informed through official channels.  We will be providing weekly updates on the status of the fire on our Facebook page and website.

Fire Ban Remains in Effect

The Provincial Fire Ban remains in effect until further notice and the public is reminded that outdoor fires and fireworks are prohibited at this time. Only approved propane devices and pellet smokers used following manufacturer’s instruction may be used for cooking.

Emergency Operations Work Continues

Living in a resort area makes us more susceptible to the risk of wildfire. The Resort Village will de-brief and report on this incident in the future. Our goal will be to learn as much as possible and prepare for any future incidents that may occur.

Property Clean Up
In the course of the FireSmart work our volunteers undertook to protect your property, certain movable items on private lots may have been repositioned. We ask that you show your appreciation and understanding by simply returning these items to their preferred locations.

Resumption of Municipal Services
All Village operations, including administrative offices, waste collection, permitting, and regular maintenance, will revert to the normal schedule on Monday, June 16, 2025.

Thank You to Those Who Played a Role in Managing This Emergency

We extend sincere gratitude to Fire Chief Jim Arnold and the firefighters, first responders, and Community Safety Officers who make up Candle Lake Emergency Services, members of the Candle Lake Emergency Operations Centre and Candle Lake Emergency Social Services, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, Wildfire Defense Systems, the Search and Rescue Saskatchewan Association of Volunteers and local volunteers, our local COPPs members, Conservation Officers, Village staff, and our Council members. The coordinated efforts of all of these groups all played a role in safeguarding our community.

Thank You to Our Local Businesses

Thank you to the local businesses who provided support to volunteers and workers over the past weeks. The best way to thank these businesses is for all of us to buy local as much as possible.

Thank You to Our Residents & Visitors

Your cooperation during this unprecedented event was appreciated. There were times when we were all learning together, and your ongoing commitment to staying informed, and asking good questions, all contributed to a strong community-wide response to the fire.

Our Thoughts Are With Affected Communities
While Candle Lake has been spared, many other jurisdictions have suffered significant wildfire damage. Our thoughts remain with those communities as they undertake recovery efforts.

Please continue to follow us on Facebook and our website where weekly fire updates will be posted.
