MOST RECENT INFORMATION ON THE SHOE FIRE
For the most up-to-date information on the Shoe Fire and ongoing protective measures, please see our Public Notices. These Notices are updated at least once daily.
STATE OF EMERGENCY: VOLUNTARY EVACUATION NOTICE IN EFFECT
Resort Village Council has declared a state of emergency due to the wildfires. In addition to providing people with more time to leave the community, calling a state of emergency has several benefits. It provides Resort Village Emergency Operations Team the ability to make decisions quickly and allows the Resort Village the opportunity to access disaster relief funding. Finally, it grants the Resort Village Council the authority, if it deems necessary, to order a Mandatory Evacuation. If a mandatory evacuation order is issued it would be declared by the Resort Village of Candle Lake Council upon advice from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA).
Many people have already left the Resort Village; several others are staying back as volunteers. The Resort Village feels those who do not have to stay should leave for their own safety.
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a mandatory evacuation order. Should a mandatory evacuation become necessary, we will provide as much advance notice as conditions allow and will communicate detailed instructions through the SaskAlert app, our website, e-news alerts, social media channels, and local media partners.
If anyone is still in the Resort Village because they have nowhere to go, please contact the Resort Village as soon as possible. While it is the responsibility of SPSA to find locations for people, the Resort Village will take proactive measures to assist you with this.
Ongoing protective actions continue, including the construction of the firebreak on the east side of Highway 120, values protection work (pumps, hoses, sprinklers being set up throughout the Resort Village), and SPSA ground and air crews active fire suppression.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
Behind the scenes our EOC is directing the community’s overall response. By following the steps above, you allow those teams to focus on what they do best - protecting lives and property. Our primary concern is that everyone stays safe, after which we will be better able to concentrate on steps to protect your property.
Here's how you can help:
- Leave Early & Register
- Heed the voluntary evacuation advisory. If you can leave, please do so as soon as possible.
- Register when you leave so we know you are safe and how to reach you. Use the online form or call the Village office at 306-929-2236.
- If You Must Stay, Stay Clear
- Give Emergency Services, SPSA crews, and heavy equipment room to work.
- Interfering with emergency workers is an offence under provincial legislation.
- Trust the Professionals
- Under a declared emergency, firefighters may enter onto private property to protect buildings.
- Do not make plans to stay behind to fight fire. Your personal safety is our first concern. SPSA crews are deploying “values protection” systems around the perimeter of neighbourhoods and buildings. This work will continue as they move methodically from area to area.
- Let the Lines Lie
- Water supply hoses will be laid out around homes. Avoid driving or walking over them.
- Essential Workers Only
- Unless you have been designated an essential worker by the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), the most helpful thing you can do is leave the Village to ensure emergency personnel have room to do their jobs. You can stay informed through our official channels.
